Under the direction of the immediate supervisor the Sports Information Office assistant will be expected to perform various admin and writing tasks in the department.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform and/or organize administrative duties in support of the daily operations, in accordance with established goals and objectives of the Sports Information Office.
- Update and maintain all varsity team rosters and schedules on the department website, ensuring information on the web is accurate and complete (NOTE: a significant part of the job is focused in this area, especially in the fall semester)
- Write post-game varsity recaps in CP Style, as assigned by the Sports Info Office.
- Update player biographies on the website
- Assist in maintaining historical and statistical archives
- Liaise with department staff, coaches, student-athletes and media in a variety of functions
- Assist in the preparation of sports statistics, media guides, press releases, biographies, press conferences and presentation of displays and exhibits.
Must be able to work weekends, either in the office, from home or via attending intercollegiate sporting events.
Part-time position, hours will be dependent on which games are being played in a given week
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Minimum two years of writing experience about sports
- Keen interest in multiple sports is an asset
- Availability to work a varied schedule, including weekends
- Ability to establish priorities and multi-task
- Strong understanding of MS Office applications
- (Word and Excel), plus Adobe applications (Photoshop, Acrobat, InDesign)
- Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
