Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Sr. Associate Athletic Director, Facilities and Operations, the Director of Athletic Grounds will oversee the maintenance of UCLA Athletics' competition and practice fields, grounds, and venues. This includes managing turf, equipment, and facility upkeep to ensure optimal performance, safety, and appearance. The role will serve as the primary grounds manager for Spaulding Field, working closely with staff, coaches, and administration to maintain a top-tier playing surface. The Director will oversee a team of five members; with two direct reports and collaborate across multiple departments to ensure compliance with industry standards. The position will have indirect oversight of multiple venues, including Jackie Robinson Baseball Stadium (main field and practice infield), Easton Softball Stadium, Annenberg Soccer Stadium, and Drake Stadium, while also contributing to project development and overall program consultation.

Qualifications 3-5 years’ experience managing natural and synthetic sports fields. (Preferred)
Proven ability to oversee and lead a team in a professional or collegiate athletics setting. In-depth knowledge of turf management practices for both natural and artificial surfaces, including synthetic turf, and multiple varieties of grass. (Required)
Strong understanding of irrigation systems, field drainage, and pest control techniques. (Required)
Working knowledge of herbicides, pesticides and insecticides application, control and storage. Certification to use these chemicals is required. (Required)
Ability to manage and supervise full-time and part-time staff members. (Required)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with coaches, staff, and external partners. (Required)
Physical ability to lift 50 pounds, reach, stand, crouch and work in various outdoor environmental conditions. (Required)
Ability to read English phrases and write concise and logical and grammatically correct correspondence and reports. (Required)
Skills in understanding, setting and meeting priorities which reflect the importance of the job responsibility. (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field. (Preferred)
