The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for an Education Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Well Doc Alberta is a pan-provincial, collaborative initiative with the vision of 'shaping the future of physician wellness, together.' Across Alberta, many individuals and groups are invested in physician wellness. This includes personal wellness, research, knowledge translation, teaching, and leadership. Much of this work occurs independent of others working in the area, and there are few opportunities to share ideas and resources. Well Doc Alberta provides a forum for collaboration. With a growing recognition that physician wellness is important to healthcare comes increased requests for educational opportunities and to provide expert guidance around individual- and system-level interventions. These requests are often unmet, but Well Doc Alberta aims to augment resources throughout the province to meet this need.
The Education Coordinator, based in Calgary, will report to the Well Doc Alberta Program Manager and will work closely with Well Doc Alberta Leadership, Education Specialist/Consultant, and various collaborators across the province to implement the robust educational activities of the program.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
EDUCATION ACTIVITIES
- Takes direction from Well Doc Alberta Leadership and Education Specialist/Consultant to implement a robust education program that aligns with the initiative's strategic Vision and Mission
- Provides suggestions to Leadership and Education Specialist/Consultant on education activities in order to meet strategic goals and success in achieving outlined Vision and Mission
- Mentors junior team members and external collaborators with regard to best practices in development and delivery of education activities
- Responsible to coordinate Well Doc Alberta's education activities, including the preparation and delivery of diverse education sessions, meetings with collaborators who will provide expert content delivery, session registration, setup, and execution
- Coordinates train-the-trainer sessions and provides advice and assistance on best practices in training expert trainers, in collaboration with program Leadership, Education Specialist/Consultant, and external collaborators
COMMUNICATIONS AND RELATIONSHIPS
- Effectively communicates relevant project information to Well Doc Alberta Leadership and stakeholders
- Works closely with program Leadership and Education Specialist/Consultant to meet with external organizations requesting the delivery of education sessions
- Works with Communications Specialist to advertise and promote education activities
- Promotes collaboration and knowledge translation with internal and external members at every opportunity
EVALUATION AND EVENT PLANNING SUPPORT
- Supports Evaluation and Measures Specialist in the distribution and analysis of education session evaluations
- Supports Evaluation and Measures Specialist in the preparation of evaluation summary reports for delivery to program Leadership, Well Doc Alberta collaborators, and session requestors/organizers
- Supports Communications Specialist and Well Doc Alberta team to effectively coordinate various events
- Works with Well Doc Alberta team to complete high priority deliverables when required
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Graduate degree, with preference for training in adult and/or medical education\
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working within a healthcare and/or University environment
- Experience with diverse adult and/or medical education methods and teaching philosophies
- Previous experience working collaboratively with physicians from various disciplines
- Experience developing presentations and workshops, statistical analysis, qualitative analysis, and report generation
- Expertise in the development and delivery of education materials required. Expertise specific to teaching physician populations is a strong asset
- Familiarity with tools used in online education (learning management systems, online classrooms)
- Familiarity with government, U of C, Industry and health sector stakeholders
- Expertise in physician wellness is an asset
- Ability to work independently and to accept responsibility for complex and sensitive decision-making as it relates to the overall conduct of the Well Doc Alberta initiative
- High degree of effective time and project management, personal initiative, and teamwork
- Results-driven individual with a history of delivering high quality work
- Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Strong time management, organizational, and coordination skills with a track record of meeting commitments and deadlines
- Ability to effectively mentor junior project staff or collaborators, and to plan for the timely and successful completion of short- and long-term objectives
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively with a large and diverse group of stakeholders such as senior University and AHS administrative staff, Division faculty and support staff, representatives of other programs and initiatives, and collaborating institution officials
- Resourceful, innovative, creative, strategic with the ability to bring forward ideas related to the education activities of Well Doc Alberta
- Perception, initiative, good judgment, and concern for detail and accuracy
- Ability to plan, problem-solve, and organize multiple tasks and priorities
- Ability to communicate well and demonstrate tact with colleagues from various disciplines and external collaborators within a complex initiative
- Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality
- Ability to interpret, analyze and disseminate critical information to Well Doc Alberta Leadership
