Position Summary:
The Department of Earth Sciences at Hillsborough Community College Brandon Campus, is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable individual to join our faculty as a tenure-track instructor. The Department seeks a strong scholar-practitioner who will share faculty enthusiasm for excellence in undergraduate teaching, service to the campus and broader, college-wide communities, and dedication to community partnerships within the region.
This position will include teaching a variety of subjects including Introduction to Astronomy, Introduction to Meteorology, and Earth Science. Topics in these courses include, but are not limited to:
Terrestrial, Jovian and Exo Planets Star Classification, Formation of the solar system, Newton’s Laws (definitions only, no calculations), Asteroids, Black holes, Cloud classification, Weather fronts, Severe weather: Tornadoes, Hurricanes, Humidity, Plate tectonics, Water flow and Erosion, Rock and Mineral classification, Geological Time Scale, Unconformities, Stresses and Faults, Volcanoes or Earthquakes.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in any combination of: Earth Science, Astronomy, Geology, Meteorology, Environmental Science, Physical Geography, Physical Science and Physics.

A faculty screening committee will analyze the strength of your application materials. Applicants with a qualifying degree from an educational institution outside the United States and Canada must submit a foreign credential evaluation from one of the members of the National Association of Credential Evaluations Services (website: www.naces.org). To complete your application, you must attach a copy of your graduate academic transcripts from an accredited institution of higher education, showing attainment of at least the minimum qualifications. The faculty screening committee will select the top candidates for an interview that includes comprehensive questions and may require a teaching demonstration.
Pay Rate:
Faculty members will be assigned to the appropriate salary grade based on the contract with the faculty union.
- Grade 3: Bachelor’s degree in major field $48,073.36
- Grade 2: Master’s Degree with 18 graduate semester hours in field $50,421.94
- Grade 2+: Master’s Degree with 30 graduate semester hours in the field $53,004.11
- Grade 1: PhD in major field $55,587.43
Up to four salary steps may be applied to the starting salary based on experience.
