The Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Assistant. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
This Research Assistant position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a pioneering project focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications in radiation medicine. Our focus will be on 1) upskilling healthcare professionals (HCPs) in AI within radiation medicine and 2) extracting more information out of CT scans using AI. Join our dedicated team, which includes radiation oncologists, medical physicists, radiation therapists and clinical educators, in advancing AI literacy and its practical application in patient care.
This is a recurring part-time position. Recurring part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
AIRM:
- Organizing course content on an online platform
- Involvement with the development and deployment of surveys and knowledge tests for evaluating educational effectiveness
- Performing data analysis related to course evaluations and project outcomes
- Contributing to manuscript preparation on research outcomes and progress, and participating in the editing and proofing of manuscripts for publication
- Attending or occasionally leading in-class sessions, following along with class content, recording lectures, and answering questions from participants
- Communicating results and collaborating with other professionals on the project team
- Reading and understanding relevant scientific literature, particularly in AI and radiation medicine
AIpCT:
- Coordinate project start-up activities, including preparing ethics submissions, developing standard operating procedures, organizing study documentation, and managing data collection and curation from multiple sources, including chart review
- Support technical components of the project by performing quality control of automated image segmentations, reviewing internal calibration outputs, and screening finite element analysis results for errors or inconsistencies
- Ensure proper documentation and contribute to the preparation of presentations and publications
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in science, engineering, or math. Graduate degree is a plus
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, including a knowledge of statistical applications and techniques
- Teaching experience
- Sound organizational and data management skills, and ability to handle several responsibilities and work under tight time constraints
- Ability to work effectively under supervision, paying close attention to detail and bearing independent responsibility for data accuracy
- Knowledge of programming tools (like Python, and R)
