Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Data Architecture Manager at the Office for Research Information Systems (ORIS), the DBA & Data Analyst is responsible for overseeing the operation of database systems for campus-wide applications related to research administration. The DBA & Data Analyst's role is to ensure that application development follows our organizational standards and practices, research and develop improvements to these standards, introduce new technologies to the organization, and manage central resources such as databases and identity management. The DBA & Data Analyst is responsible for working with application developers on ensuring that application architectures and data models are consistent with sound design practices and adhere to internal convention. Incumbent will manage database resources and review database audits and system logs. The DBA & Data Analyst is also responsible for following database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying applications. Other responsibilities may include assisting with application integration of single-sign-on or identity/access management solution, facilitating cloud/PaaS integration of applications, developing reports and business-friendly data "views" or other interpolations of data across multiple sources for business users. Must be able to communicate well with staff at all levels of the organization, work effectively with little supervision in a 24x7 operational environment.

Qualifications Five to seven years developing data-driven applications, database modeling, or SQL development. (Required)
Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills including strong technical documentation skills and the ability to present ideas in user-friendly language. (Required)
Able prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment with minimal direction/input from supervisor. (Required)
Able to participate in adjusted shifts for after-hours maintenance on a semi-weekly basis. (Required)
Strong customer service focus and experience working directly with non-technical customers and end-users. (Required)
Experience working in an IT advisory, design, consulting, or architectural role. (Required)
Expert knowledge of database structures, principles, and practices or of data-driven application design. (Required)
Functional understanding of reporting and query tools and practices. (Required)
Expert knowledge of SQL query development, data modeling tools, and query performance improvement. (Required)
Strong understanding of IT security and data privacy principles, including experience working under at least one of the following regulatory or compliance regimes: HIPAA, FERPA, PCI, SOX. (Required)
Hands-on database tuning and troubleshooting experience. (Preferred)
Experience with the Microsoft Visual Studio IDE or similar and development in object-oriented programming, especially C#.NET CLR 4, strongly preferred. (Preferred)
Experience developing web applications and understanding of architectural aspects of modern web applications such as MVC and RESTful services preferred. (Preferred)
Strong understanding of data warehousing principles and ETL development and support. (Preferred)
Hands-on experience supporting and developing SQL in MS-SQL 2012 or data access layers in .NET 4.0 or newer (e.g. Entity Framework). (Preferred)
Working knowledge of identity and access management principles and at least one single-sign-on framework or protocol (e.g. SAML, Shibboleth, ADFS, OpenID). (Preferred)
Experience working in higher education or the public sector. (Preferred)
