Position is responsible for serving as a simulation education specialist and administering, advising, designing, developing or providing educational or training services in formal education or training programs. Position provides coordination of simulation within nursing curricula. This position is a 9-month faculty position. Funding secured presently for 2 years with possibility of additional funding.
Description of Duties and Tasks:
- Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Manages and directs simulation activities for the School of Nursing.
- Utilize NLN/Jeffries Framework and current simulation standards.
- Collaborates with faculty to develop simulation scenarios to promote student learning, critical thinking, and clinical decision making.
- Assists faculty to plan, implement, and evaluate the integration of simulation into curriculum to promote student learning, critical thinking and clinical decision making.
- Facilitates faculty development related to use of simulation.
- Provides oversight for the coordination and scheduling for the use of labs for: regular classes, special class sections, open lab, advanced clinical skills, clinical skills evaluation, student projects, and other groups requesting lab space.
- Ensures maintenance and proper function of all simulation mannequins and other simulation equipment, including an inventory of all simulation equipment. Serves as a clinical resource for students (open lab and tutoring) and remediates (class/clinical) using simulation.
- Serves as liaison with area health care facilities regarding practice policy changes that impact simulation/lab environment.
- Coordinate implementation of those changes into lab/simulation when possible.
- Makes recommendations for additional purchases of simulation equipment.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement and innovation, and planning change initiatives for the integration of simulation in clinical education.
- Investigates and submits proposals for potential grant opportunities to fund new simulation initiatives.
- Creates and delivers professional presentations regarding all aspects of simulation to local, state, and national groups.
- Collects data on the effectiveness of simulation on student learning, critical thinking, and clinical decision making.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and current medication deliver methods.
- Ability to use computer hardware and software, such as MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to lift/move objects up to 25 pounds.
- Position may require local travel between campuses and off-campus sites to perform required duties, attend meetings, and to fulfill other responsibilities.
Faculty Requirements:
1. Deliver assigned classes using pedagogy and technology that best support student learning,
and in accordance with college loading policy, course objectives and program learning
outcomes.
2. Develop and maintain curriculum and supporting course materials in keeping with and
furtherance of course objectives and program learning outcomes.
3. Maintain student records, attendance, grades, and other documentation as required. Manage
a classroom environment conducive to student learning and in adherence to federal, state, and
college safety standards and practices.
4. Facilitate student achievement of expected program learning outcomes.
5. Use Learning Management System (e.g. IvyLearn) to facilitate teaching, learning, assessment
and communication.
6. Ensures knowledge of and implements emergency and safety procedures for classrooms, labs
and all learning environments.
7. Provide institutional support as requested by college administration such as participation on
committees and task forces, projects related to college and program accreditations, and grant-
related projects.
8. Support and engage with Workforce Alignment and Development (Ivy Tech Foundations).
9. Attend commencement and participate as assigned by campus administration.
10. Participate in college/campus-wide meetings and departmental/school/faculty meetings.
11. Participate in career service and alumni activities.
12. Support program/department chair in program management activities.
13. Adhere to college and campus academic policies

Minimum qualifications: A full- or part-time faculty member in the ASN or PN program must meet all of the following criteria:
1. Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Registered Nurse and,
2. Possesses a current, unencumbered Indiana Registered Nurse license, and
3. The majority of faculty shall hold master’s degrees in nursing.
4. Faculty with Bachelor’s degrees in nursing must meet ALL of the following requirements:
a. Within one semester of initial appointment must have a written academic plan of study for completion of a Master’s degree in nursing, and
b. Provides ongoing documentation (each semester) demonstrating matriculation towards completion of a Master’s degree in nursing, and
c. Continued employment of a person who does not hold a Master’s degree in nursing shall be contingent upon documented progress towards their approved academic plan.
5. The majority of faculty must be full-time employees of the institution. ISBN Title 848 I- A-C 1-2-13.
Experience:
Three years of recent acute care nursing experience
One year of teaching experience in nursing theory, clinical, or campus lab settings preferred, but not required
Experience in simulation pedagogy
Preferences:
Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) or seeking in next year.
