Position SummaryResponsible for interacting with visitors to the Museum and safeguarding the Museum's collections, temporary exhibitions, property, employees, and visitors through highly proactive, appropriately preemptive, and immediately responsive action. Ensure visitors feel welcome at the museum and provide guidance to Museum Attendants on providing exceptional customer service to museum visitors. Inspects and patrols all museum spaces on foot: including onsite and office program spaces: monitors and operates computerized alarm, access, and closed circuit television systems; watched for, reports, and addresses potential security and safety hazards and problems; checks entrances and exits; and performs dispatch duties. Maintains and files security logs and reports, and performs other security duties as assigned by Supervisor and Management. In the absence of the Assistant Director of Events and Marketing, will guide deliveries and pickups by vendors for museum and rental events. The incumbent is also responsible for serving as back up supervisor for up to 20-part time student Museum Attendants.

QualificationsKeen ability to observe, report, and respond to safety and security issues in both public and sensitive museum areas; ability to think on one's feet, exercise good judgment, and respond appropriately. (Required)
Skill in interacting diplomatically with the public in a high volume, continuous public-contact setting; ability to maintain composure in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility; ability to provide excellent customer service. (Preferred)
In the event of a security- or safety-related incident, ability to interact with and speak to persons of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds to provide and/or obtain necessary information. (Required)
Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating well with colleagues; ability to consistently demonstrate a positive attitude, high level of initiative, assertiveness in regard to safety and security matters, and a commitment to the department's and Museum's success and continuous improvement.

Physical abilities to perform all core functions and duties, including but not limited to the ability to talk; hear; stand and walk for extended periods; climb stairs; push; pull; reach; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; manual dexterity to operate a computer. (Required)
Visual acuity including but not limited to color vision, depth perception, central and peripheral vision, distance vision; visual acuity to read and view computer and video monitors; ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions; ability to work overtime and varying shifts as required.
