Job DescriptionThe Associate Director of Post Award in Research Administration plays a critical leadership role in managing and overseeing the post-award functions of the university's research enterprise. This individual is responsible for ensuring compliant, efficient, and customer-focused post-award administration of sponsored projects. The position leads a team of research accountants, collaborates with faculty and administrators, and serves as a key liaison with internal and external partners to support the university’s research mission.
Key Responsibilities:
●Lead and manage research accounting operations including budget monitoring, financial reporting, invoicing, and compliance.
●Supervise, mentor, and train research accounting staff to ensure consistent high performance and professional development.
●Ensure adherence to federal regulations (Uniform Guidance), sponsor-specific requirements, and university policies.
●Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and service delivery in post-award administration.
●Collaborate and serve as a resource to faculty, department administrators, and central offices for complex financial and compliance matters.
●Interpret and communicate sponsor guidelines and award terms to stakeholders.
●Monitor sponsored project accounts to ensure allowable, allocable, and reasonable expenditures.
●Oversee timely and accurate award closeout processes, ensuring all costs are reconciled and obligations fulfilled prior to financial close.
●Provide support for audits and other special projects, as needed.
●Provide regular metrics, updates and reporting to senior leadership on sponsored research financial metrics and risks
●Contribute to strategic planning initiatives within Research Administration.
●Ensure staff are trained on new sponsor regulations, system changes, and university policies.
●Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, customer service, and continuous learning within the team
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $109,850 to $137,300; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
RequirementsRequired:
●Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, or related field.
●Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in research administration.
●In-depth knowledge of post-award management practices and federal regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance, NIH, NSF).
●Proven experience with research administration systems and tools (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft, Workday, Infoed).
●Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
●Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across teams.
Preferred:
●Master’s degree or CRA certification.
●Experience working in a higher education or large research-intensive institution.
