Description
The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Senior Program Manager. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 10 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Project Direction and Leadership
- Manage the RHYYC program and direct its strategic development and visibility
- Assess risk, and develop and manage risk mitigation strategies
- Allocate resources and control the program's finances through maintaining individual project budgets and preparing financial reports
- Manage time scheduling
- Manage stakeholder relations
- Design and implement quality assurance and control processes for all written outputs, including grant applications progress reports, and knowledge translation outputs
- Monitor and evaluate ongoing projects to ensure implementation in accordance to scope, timeframe, and budget
- Initiate and manage institutional, national, and international collaborations
- Contribute to departmental administration (organizing meetings, journal club, seminar series)
Staff Management
- Work with the Principal investigator to determine positions that would support the strategic goals of the Research group
- Establish and maintain multi-faceted research team
- Manage the creation of job profiles, hiring, and onboarding of staff
- Manage performance and development of individual team members to maximize success and motivation
- Performs and engages staff in annual performance reviews
- When required, perform disciplinary actions, including terminations
- Oversee the complete range of human resource management for operational staff
- Ensure all staff complete up-to-date research, ethical, privacy, security, hazard awareness, and any other relevant training courses
Use of Technical Knowledge & Expertise
- Collaborate in designing research projects will attract external funding
- Coordinate the development, maintenance, and submission of grant applications, research projects, study protocols, ethics applications, and knowledge translation outputs
- Provide expert oversight on policy-related matters
Communication
- Coordinate and implement comprehensive and effective stakeholder engagement
- Oversee the development and dissemination of project progress reports
- Coordinate and contribute to the programme's knowledge translation efforts (including abstracts, policy papers, manuscripts, infographics, posters, and presentations)
- Present project progress at conferences and meetings to encourage collaboration
- Act as a liaison to provide communication between research teams, supervisors, and funders
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Master's degree in political science, international relations, public policy, conflict studies, or a related field is required
- Project management training is an asset
- 7 years of project management experience in an international development organization such as the United Nations; preference for experience managing international projects on migration and/or health
- Experience hiring and managing staff is required
- Experience working with teams to manage and grow a project and/or program is required
- Refugee and migrant health-related research experience is required
- Experience working with PeopleSoft and Efin is an asset
- Experience working with diverse populations is an asset
- Advanced project management knowledge and skills are required
- Advanced knowledge of research administrative procedures is required
- Leadership, organizational, problem solving, communication, writing, and interpersonal skills required
- Strong knowledge of refugee and migrant health research and policy is required
- Resourceful, innovative, creative, strategic
- Good judgment and concern for detail and accuracy
- Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel)
- Knowledge of RHYYC program objectives and the refugee health landscape within local and global contexts is an asset
- Familiarity with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is desirable
- Proficiency in a second language is an asset
