The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Manager, Strategic Programs - Clinical Innovation. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Reporting directly to the W21C Director, the Manager, Strategic Program - Clinical Innovation will play a pivotal role in expanding and strengthening W21C's clinical trials platform, fostering key partnerships and business development across academia, health care, government, and industry.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Leadership
- Lead development and implementation of policies, procedures, and operational strategies for W21C's clinical innovation portfolio
- Collaborate with W21C leadership on strategic planning, program development, and resource optimization
- Identify opportunities for growth and business development, evaluate funding proposals, and support development of new initiatives
- Provide expert guidance on budgeting, compliance, and research support to investigators and staff
- Drive continuous improvement in systems, processes, and financial performance
Partner Engagement
- Act as primary liaison between W21C and institutional, governmental, industry, and academic partners
- Foster strategic partnerships to advance clinical research and innovation initiatives
- Ensure effective communication and compliance with all funding and regulatory bodies
- Represent W21C at external meetings, events, and collaborative opportunities
Team Management
- Supervise, mentor, and support operational and research staff, including recruitment, performance management, and professional development
- Lead staffing strategy and resource allocation in collaboration with W21C Operations
- Promote a positive, inclusive team culture and contribute to staff recognition efforts
Operational Oversight
- Oversee program administration, financial management, and grant compliance
- Approve expenditures, monitor budget adherence, and resolve financial or administrative issues
- Lead internal reporting to support strategic decision-making and accountability
Research Oversight
- Provide leadership to ensure all research complies with ethics, regulatory, and institutional standards
- Guide investigators and staff through ethics submissions, renewals, and amendments
- Oversee the development of research proposals, protocols, and dissemination activities
- Oversee the submission of abstracts, presentations, and publications
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Minimum 8 - 10 years of senior-level experience in clinical trial operations, health research leadership, or innovation management
- Deep knowledge of the Canadian clinical research environment, health system operations, and clinical governance
- Demonstrated success in managing strategic partnerships and leading high-performing, multidisciplinary teams
- Expertise in regulatory compliance, ethics, and health information privacy
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
- Experience within the University environment would be an asset
