LPPI champions nonpartisan, evidence-based domestic policy solutions that improve the economic, political, and social landscape for Latinos and other communities of color in states and localities across the U.S. LPPI leverages UCLA’s cross-disciplinary strengths to create an enterprise-wide home for Latino social policy with expertise in over a dozen issue areas including civil rights, criminal justice, educational equity, health access, housing, and voting and civic participation. LPPI fosters innovative research, leverages policy-relevant expertise, drives civic engagement, and nurtures a leadership pipeline to propel viable policy reforms that expand opportunity for all Americans.
Position SummaryAs the Director of Development for the UCLA Latino Policy & Politics Institute (LPPI), your fundraising expertise, strategic vision, and ambition will directly contribute to LPPI's mission of addressing critical domestic policy challenges impacting Latinos and other communities of color through research, advocacy, mobilization, and leadership development. The Development Director will support LPPI's long-term sustainability by leading a broad range of fundraising activities, including foundation and government grants, gifts, and contracts. Key responsibilities will involve identifying, cultivating, and stewarding foundation partnerships, managing a portfolio of foundation funders, overseeing grant proposal development, and collaborating with LPPI Directors and researchers to maximize institutional funding opportunities. You will also work closely with LPPI leadership, staff, and the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs development team to implement a strategy for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding general and major gift prospects to grow LPPI's endowment. This role demands a seasoned professional who can formulate long-term plans, develop key constituencies, and identify prospects for contracts, grants, and gifts. The ideal candidate is a confident public speaker, a strategic thinker, an exceptional writer, and a fundraising expert with a proven track record of securing and managing foundation grants and individual gifts. Previous experience in research and policy is preferred. The Development Director will collaborate closely with the Faculty Director and LPPI leaders, while also establishing and maintaining strong relationships with key individuals and offices within UCLA Luskin School and UCLA External Affairs. Please note, this is a hybrid position.

Qualifications Minimum of five year of fundraising experience and/or prior professional experience in a related field such as sales, marketing or business development. (Required)
Working knowledge of the principles and practices of fundraising in a university setting with a strong understanding of the goals, functions and services of a research university of institution of equivalent complexity. (Required)
Pursue grant opportunities, develop proposals and provide all related reports. (Required)
Proven skills in developing sophisticated strategies in planning, implementing and administering complex major gift solicitations or other solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity. (Required)
Strong, documented record of gifts solicited and closed in the annual, special and or major gifts range and/or solicitations of a similar nature, level and complexity. (Required)
Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work harmoniously with volunteers, academic leaders, faculty, and other development staff toward the accomplishment of fundraising goals. (Required)
Demonstrated skill and/or ability to work with a dean and/or senior faculty or equivalent leadership of a similar level and type at a comparable organization. (Required)
Ability to establish priorities, manage multiple tasks and multi-phase projects simultaneously from inception to completion and complete work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision. (Required)
Ability to communicate persuasively, both orally and in writing, about UCLA's fundraising goals and the specific priorities for Latino Policy and Politics; equal ability to listen perceptively and convey sensitivity and awareness. (Required)
Excellent written and communications skills, with the ability to produce business correspondence, solicitation materials, appropriate letters of acknowledgment, proposals to individuals, corporations and foundations and reports. (Required)
Impeccable integrity and discretion with donors, alumni, students, administrators, and colleagues as well as confidential information. (Required)
Ability to travel and work some weekends and or evenings as needed. (Preferred)
