Department SummaryThe UCLA Latino Policy & Politics Institute (LPPI) champions nonpartisan, evidence-based domestic policy solutions that improve the economic, political, and social landscape for Latinos and other communities of color in states and localities across the U.S. LPPI leverages UCLA’s cross-disciplinary strengths to create an enterprise-wide home for Latino social policy with expertise in over a dozen issue areas including civil rights, criminal justice, educational equity, health access, housing, and voting and civic participation. LPPI fosters innovative research, leverages policy-relevant expertise, drives civic engagement, and nurtures a leadership pipeline to propel viable policy reforms that expand opportunity for all Americans.
Position SummaryThe Web Experience Designer plays a vital role in shaping the online experience for our renowned research institute and school. The position works alongside a dedicated team to design and develop websites, web applications, and data visualizations that advance knowledge management, platform to improve user experience for our stakeholders and constituents. The Web Experience Designer is: ● A user champion: uses analytic tools to conduct user research, participate in usability testing, and analyze data to understand user needs and behaviors. Craft web experiences that meet user expectations. ● Collaborative: Partners with researchers and administrative staff to to translate sometimes complex information into engaging and accessible web experiences. Design visual interfaces, page layouts, and data visualizations that effectively communicate research findings. ● Inquisitive: Dive into website analytics to identify user journeys, pain points, and opportunities for improvement. Utilize data insights to inform design decisions and drive website optimization

QualificationsUnderstanding of the user-centered design process (user research, user needs assessment, user modeling, design, usability evaluation and developer relations). (Required)
Understanding of design principles, guidelines and relevant policies including web accessibility standards. (Required)
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. (Required)
Proficiency in design tools like Figma, Sketch, or similar software. (Preferred)
Solid understanding of Wordpress content management system (CMS). (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal AffiliationsBachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Interaction Design, or a related field or the equivalent experience and training (Required)
