The Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Certified Exercise Physiologist. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator and will be located at the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre.
This position will be involved in administering physical fitness, muscular strength, endurance tests, and a range of other health-related fitness tests to the study participants. The individual will also undertake descriptive analyses and lead a manuscript for peer-reviewed journal submission.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Administer PAR-Q+ to study participants to determine eligibility for testing
- Administer cardiopulmonary capacity fitness tests and muscular strength and endurance tests
- Administer anthropometric assessments including body composition assessment by dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scans
- Administer activity tracking wearable devices such as accelerometers
- Assist in the refinement of study procedures and protocols involved in fitness testing
- Complete data entry of health-related fitness tests
- Prepare summary feedback forms on outcome of health-related fitness tests for dissemination to study participants
- Maintain regular, on-going contact with study participants to ensure adherence to the exercise prescription
- Adhere to policies and procedures to deal with the flow and processing of study materials and data
- Participate in monthly conference calls and team meetings to discuss on-going projects within each research program and develop future research initiatives
- Work to maintain quality standards in the administration of all fitness assessments
- Analyze baseline characteristics of the AYA-PACT participants
- Draft, revise, and submit initial manuscript for the AYA-PACT study that will provide an overview of the trial design and participants' baseline characteristics
Qualifications / Requirements:
- BSc or MSc in health-related field
- 3-5 years of related experience
- Certified Exercise Physiologist (CEP) from the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology required
- Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently
- Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with close attention to detail
- Experience undertaking descriptive analyses using Stata and/or R
- Experience writing peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication
- Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
- Understanding of safety codes and standards related to specialization
- Operate and maintain complex technical equipment
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
