The Subsurface Evaluation for Clean Energy Program in the Faculty of Science is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Program Coordinator for approximately 12 months.
The Subsurface Evaluation for Clean Energy (SECE) program introduces participants to technical, social, economic, and regulatory aspects of clean energy. Clean Energy Pathways that utilize the subsurface include carbon capture storage, hydrogen production and storage, geothermal energy, and critical elements needed to support the clean energy transition. Offered through University of Calgary Continuing Education, the program is designed to educate petro-workers or hydrocarbon industry professionals who are interested in exploring new opportunities in the rapidly emerging area of clean energy.
The SECE Program Coordinator reports to the program director with strong accountability to members of the SECE Program team. The standard work week is 35 hours per week; however, actual work schedules may vary according to business needs and service requirements. This position is a part of the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE). This position has a hybrid work arrangement.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Serve as liaison between the Faculty of Science and Continuing Education in course development planning and implementation.
- Provide course implementation support ensuring that logistics are thoughtfully planned and implemented based on the required criteria.
- Review course content (e.g., PowerPoint slides, lecture notes, etc.) and provide feedback to ensure clarity and alignment with course objectives.
- Provide feedback on the design, structure, and organization of course shells to enhance student engagement.
- Regularly review D2L course shells (Desire2Learn) to ensure content is accurate, up to date, and user-friendly.
- Assist with the scheduling and logistics of video recording sessions with SMEs.
- Assist in scheduling and managing synchronous sessions such as webinars, panel discussions, and live interactive sessions.
- Coordinate scheduling of core sessions at the AER Core Repository, ensuring that all logistics are in place for successful events and training sessions.
- Organize and coordinate all logistics for field trips to the Newall County field site as part of course-related activities.
- Work with faculty and students to ensure safety, logistics, and appropriate scheduling for field trips.
- Liaise with copyright offices to ensure that all course materials, including readings, media, and presentations, comply with copyright laws and guidelines. Obtain necessary permissions for any copyrighted materials used in course delivery.
- Manage, monitor, and report on financials in coordination with the Continuing Education and Carbon Management Canada (CMC) departments.
- Track expenses, ensure adherence to budgetary limits, and report any financial discrepancies or needs for adjustments.
- Provide administrative support to team members as required.
- Ensure that all program-related documentation, schedules, and reports are organized and readily accessible.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Communication, Science, or a related field.
- A Master's degree is an asset.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in academic program coordination, curriculum development, or related roles.
- Prior experience managing budgets and preparing financial reports.
- Prior experience in managing the logistical coordination of events and schedules.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and accuracy.
- Experience with educational platforms (e.g., D2L) and technology tools for online learning.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with copyright regulations and procedures would be an asset.
