Description
The Department of Medicine IT in the Cumming School of Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Technical Systems Analyst, Research for approximately 12 months.
Reporting to the Technical System Team Lead.
The position typically works 35 hours per week, from 08:30 to 16:30, Monday to Friday on-site at Foothills campus. The role involves managing a high volume of work and changing responsibilities, significantly impacting the reputation of Information Technologies and the success of research at the Cumming School of Medicine. Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Project Management
- Lead, organize, and prioritize incoming tasks while effectively managing competing priorities
- Follow standard procedures for tracking and escalating incidents, seeking opportunities to optimize efficiency, develop, and implement process improvements
- Understand clients' requirements and ensure they are informed and updated on related work
- Maintain accurate records of all work using designated tools
Technical Operations
- Guide clients through issues to identify root causes and develop remediation plans
- Ensure timely resolution of technical problems
- Resolve complex technical or procedural issues
- Design and develop IT solutions for research, teaching, and administration
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and networking issues
- Develop and maintain robust hardware, system software, and networking environments
- Use logic and analysis to address problems and resolve incidents
- Maintain high-quality documentation, including logs and user/system documentation
- Optimize and reverse engineer existing systems
- Perform hardware repairs and provide support
- Adhere to all relevant policies
Collaboration
- Collaborate with internal IT teams on research projects
- Build relationships with customers, Project Managers, Business Analysts, and faculty representatives to understand technical needs and develop solutions
- Foster positive relationships with all stakeholders
- Maintain a collaborative environment within the technical support group
- Ask questions, provide suggestions, and offer support and training as needed
- Involve the Technical Manager or team members when necessary
Leadership
- Mentor and advise team members on technical and operational procedures
- Demonstrate leadership in customer technology standards across IT and campus
- A strong team player that can establish, cultivate and maintain trust with clients, while ensuring overall team objectives are prioritized
Initiative
- Recommend and implement innovative IT and business solutions
- Develop and implement new processes within the unit
Flexibility
- Adapt to changing challenges and responsibilities
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Post-secondary education (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- 5-8 years or more of relevant experience in Information Technology, research, medicine, or related domains
- Proficient analytical and problem-solving skills (debugging and troubleshooting skills are an asset)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relations skills (technical writing is an asset)
- Proven ability to resolve business and technical issues across multiple domains (IT, research, education, HR, etc.)
- Responsible handling of routine access to sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality
- Ability to clearly translate technical information for clients with little or no technical background and translate customer needs into service requests and IT intakes
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Ability to support and train users and team members effectively
- Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize and meet competing deadlines
- IT Fundamentals: Experience with or understanding some of the following (acknowledging that Tech is a continuously changing field; this list is not exhaustive):
- Microsoft, Mac, and Unix/Linux hardware, operating systems, and tools
- Network fundamentals such as ethernet, wi-fi, routing, switching, access control
- Management of Active directory, MECM, Jamf Pro, Intune, Group Policy
- Application implementation, maintenance, testing, validation, and documentation
- Security controls and processes
- Medical and/or statistical software (R, SAS, Stata, etc.)
- Lab Management Information Systems
- Diagnostic imaging
- High performance computing
- Enterprise storage
- Successful performance in cross-domain and/or non-IT skills and experience
- ITIL Foundations certification
- Experience applying project management procedures and implementation strategies
- Handling of equipment; lifting up to 25lbs.
