Description
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Communications and Marketing Coordinator for approximately 24 months.
This position reports to the Manager, Marketing and Brand.
This position is required to plan and produce a variety of compelling written communications pieces, including marketing and advertising deliverables using a variety of media such as printed announcements, brochures and invitations, posters, photos, videos, web pages and social media content including video.
The person requires excellent communication skills, with the ability to drive UCVM's storytelling through highly effective written, and oral communications skills, and a strong interest in developing social media skills. The Coordinator is key in supporting UCVM's overall strategic communications goals and frequently makes decisions and/or recommendations that have the potential to significantly impact the public profile and reputation of UCVM.
This position is predominantly located at the Foothills Campus, with occasional travel to the Spyhill Campus.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Content Support:
- Write content for internal and external communications (UToday, newsletters, website, reports, social media, events marketing, etc.)
- Create strong storytelling to develop UCVM's reputation internal and external to the university
Social Media Support:
- Generate and edit content (original text, images, video etc.) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members, particularly current students, recent grads, faculty, alumni to increase awareness and enhance faculty reputation
- Generate poster, photo and video creation for social media content (using applications like Canva or Marq)
- Maintains brand and design standards
Digital Media Support:
- Support the Digital Communications Advisor with UCVM website communications such as:
- Changes to layout design in Marketo
- Presentation development
- Minor content updates on the web
- Minor graphic design tasks
Event support:
- Play a key role in attending events to obtain marketing content and material
- Maintaining positive relationships with events coordinators, faculty, staff and students
- Responsible for monitoring UCVM event content aligns with brand standards
Relationships and Collaborations:
- Establishes and maintains relationships with key stakeholders across the University and with external stakeholders
- Support UCVM success stories particularly in education, research and community engagement, by promoting and celebrating faculty, students, alumni, and donors
- Works collaboratively with the Office of Communications and Community Engagement to ensure marketing strategies align with the University of Calgary brand
- Keep abreast of current marketing best practices, systems and tools and act as a brand champion for UCVM, upholding the university's visual identity
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Post Secondary Diploma or Degree in Journalism, Literary Studies, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Design or a related area
- 1 to 3 years related experience, preferably in a writing, communications, marketing, content development, storytelling and design
- Excellent communication skills, with a proficiency in writing and editing for a variety of platforms
- Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Experience with social media content creation is strongly preferred
- Experience working with marketing and design tools (e.g. Marketo, Canva, Adobe Suite, Drupal or similar) is an asset
- Content Support
