General Statement of Job
The Recruiter promotes a college-going and college-completion culture in our communities. The recruiter plays a critical role in promoting South Texas College and Valley Promise initiative to prospective students, families, and community stakeholders. This position is responsible for outreach, recruitment, and engagement efforts to ensure eligible students are informed about the program's benefits and supported throughout the application process. The recruiter collaborates with high schools, community organizations, and internal departments to strengthen enrollment and enhance the visibility of the STC Valley Promise initiative.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Provides a positive, friendly and knowledgeable impression of the College utilizing excellent customer service.
- Designs and implements recruitment initiatives and events for the college and the valley promise program.
- Represent and conduct presentations at high schools, college fairs, community events, and other venues to promote program benefits.
- Build relationships with high school counselors and teachers to increase awareness of the Valley Promise initiative.
- Maintain a strong presence in the community, serving as the primary point of contact for prospective students and their families.
- Provide one-on-one support to prospective students and their families, guiding them through the application and enrollment process.
- Communicate program benefits, eligibility requirements, and application deadlines clearly and effectively.
- Respond to inquiries via phone, email, or in-person meetings in a timely and professional manner.
- Track communication with prospective students and follow up to ensure successful enrollment.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, prospective student information, and application statuses.
- Analyze and leverage recruitment data to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and suggest improvements to maximize program impact.
- Prepare regular reports for the Director of Valley Promise, outlining progress toward recruitment goals.
- Work closely with the Valley Promise team to ensure a seamless transition for students from recruitment to enrollment.
- Monitor progress and goals within assigned districts.
- Performs a wide variety of customer service and office support functions, including responding to inquiries and providing information to student applicants regarding the enrollment process.
- Supporting Valley Promise Scholars with degree advising, course registration, degree planning, and connecting them with different student resources offered at the college.
- Conducts tracking, progress monitoring, and analysis of valley promise cohorts to facilitate student persistence, progress, and/or degree completion.
- Connects valley promise scholars with employment or advanced study college resources/department after degree completion.
- Is familiar with course prerequisites, degree evaluations, program requirements, and accreditation of schools to establish students' qualification for admission.
- Serves as the contact person for internal coordination of college student recruitment and enrollment management goals utilizing specific knowledge of admissions, registration criteria and financial aid and/or scholarship information and deadlines.
- Coordinates and implements enrollment programming and marketing strategies relating to targeted prospective, new, to first time in college students and valley promise scholars.
- Travels to school districts and community entities for presentations and events.
- Utilizes the College Customer Relationship Management tool to facilitate communication plans and track students through the student lifecycle.
- Assists with campus events and productions.
- Assists with enrollment marketing strategies and activities.
- Represents the college and conducts various media outlets, business and committee meetings, and community functions.
- Maintains familiarity with the College‘s policies and procedures in regards to recruitment and the enrollment process.
- Serves as Campus Security Authority.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree required. Bachelor's degree in business administration, communications, or Spanish, preferred.
- At least one (1) year of front-line customer service experience required.
- At least one (1) year of higher education experience in enrollment/student services, preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
- Critical thinking and data analysis skills.
- Knowledge of student information systems.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
- Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from groups of students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Ability to apply practical understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Security Sensitive position: All applicants are subject to a criminal background check under South Texas College policy.
- Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
Physical Requirements
