Ivy Tech Bloomington is searching for a part-time Lab Assistant for the Kinesiology and Exercise Science Program. This position supports the lead course instructor in lab settings with the development of practical fitness testing skills and exercise instruction consistent with their certification level. This position will be 1 day per week for around 5 hours. Lab Assistants make between 20.00-25.00 an hour.
Major Duties and Responsibilities (not all-inclusive):
1. Teach and mentor students to acquire practical fitness testing and exercise instruction protocol skill development consistent with American College of Sports Medicine Standards for the exercise specialist.
2. Conduct skills testing stations during prescheduled lab times utilizing department authorized check-off sheets and midterm practical exams.
3. Receive and grade psychomotor and lab documentation assignments and paperwork.
4. Assist with tutoring students as needed who have identified weaknesses in course content.
5. Provide training excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
6. Travel and assist with the department’s outlying affiliate partnerships and projects in the local Bloomington area.
7. Participate in community service, service learning, and civic engagement projects and activities as deemed appropriate by supervisor.
8. Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of student enrollment records in compliance with the College and the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act (FERPA).
9. All other duties as assigned consistent with commonly accepted academic practices.
Minimum Education, Experience and Qualifications
· Advanced level knowledge, skills, and abilities attained through two (2) years of specialized post-secondary education/training or technical/industry certification in a specific area and substantial related experience.
· Possess a current NCCA certification consistent with the course level they assist
· Positions further entail independent work effort, confidentiality, and working relationships and contacts with administrators both inside and outside the organization
· Must possess excellent communication skills, be extremely dependable, and have a flexible work schedule.
· Recognizes the need to maintain accuracy and confidentiality of student course records.
· Be a team player who presents themselves in the professional manner expected within the industry and program.
