Law for Project Managers

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Calgary has an opening for a Sessional Instructor for the following course in Fall 2025 (August 25 ¿ December 24, 2025).
ENCI 699 Law for Project Managers
Legal issues related to the effective management of projects. Introduction to the legal system and processes; environmental law; intellectual property non-disclosure; professional liability; contract law; strategic alliances; employment law; the builder's lien act. Cases are reviewed and students are expected to complete a number of assignments requiring research into case law.
Position Requirements:
The successful candidate is required to be available during the entire period of the Fall term. It is preferred that the successful candidate has earned a law degree and is a registered member of the Law Society of Alberta. Alternatively, the successful candidate is required to have earned at least a master¿s degree in engineering and must have a demonstrated background in the subject matter related to this course. The successful candidate must also have very good previous teaching performance or show the potential for very good to excellent teaching ability.
The Department of Civil Engineering programs are accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB). To maintain our programs' accreditation, faculty must be licensed to practice engineering in Alberta. The successful candidate will be expected to hold professional engineering licensure with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA), or with an equivalent association in another Canadian province.
