Plymouth State University is looking for non-tenure track, 12-month faculty member. This position is 50% teaching and 40% managing and supervising the Outdoor Center. Teaching responsibilities will be within the Adventure Education program. In addition, this position will manage the Outdoor Center, including the outdoor equipment rental program, the indoor climbing wall, and work directly with the Student Life division on planning and implementing activities and programs for our full student body through the Outdoor Experiences and the Community Adventure Learning Experience programs. 10% of this position will also be responsible for leading the Outdoor Orientation Program for incoming students.
Teaching of undergraduate courses within the Adventure Education program. 50% of the position is dedicated to academic instruction and administrative duties. This portion of the job includes teaching 14 credits of Adventure Education (AP) courses per year [e.g., AP2900 Outdoor Orientation Leadership (3cr.), AP3510 Outdoor Skills Clinical (3cr.), and AP4200 Teaching Assistantship Seminar (1cr.)] and some administrative tasks TBD (e.g., managing ropes course inspections, WMNF permits, transportation logistics).
Managing and supervising the Outdoor Center. 40% of this position is dedicated to delivering co-curricular clinical experiences through the supervision of the Outdoor Center, supervision of the climbing wall and its programming, Outdoor Experiences programming for campus community, support for outdoor adventure-related student clubs, educational adventure programming for campus and off-campus groups (i.e., Community Adventure Learning Experiences - CALE). These clinical experiences are intended to be designed through extensive collaboration with Student Life, aligned with their targeted goals and identified needs.
Outdoor Orientation Program. 10% of this position is dedicated to the planning, management, and delivery of the August Outdoor Orientation for new students.
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:
Master’s Degree in appropriate field
Experience in Adventure/outdoor education
Experience in teaching at a college or university level
Required Licenses & Certifications:
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Proven record of leadership and supervision
Proven record of experience in outdoor activities risk management
Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Competence in technology including Microsoft Teams, Outlook, SharePoint, and related fundamental software
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience instructing or managing outdoor orientation programs
Current LNT Master Educator Certificate
Demonstrated management of equipment and rentals
