Position Summary
AI & Digital Assistant – Hege Commons Ground
Position Summary:
This role supports the ongoing transformation of the Hege Commons Ground into a creative, tech-forward learning space. The assistant will play a key role in helping students and faculty explore generative AI tools (like ChatGPT and DALL·E), co-create learning materials, and prototype what responsible innovation looks like in a liberal arts context. A major focus will include supporting early research and development for a potential Ethical AI Certificate at Guilford. The initial development of this certificate will be for degree-seeking undergraduates. The certification process will be built into Guilford’s curriculum for these degree-seekers through existing courses such as IE 101 First Year Seminar and/or other related general education requirements. Certification credentials will be awarded using Guilford’s Title III-supported ePortfolio and badging system, currently Canvas Credentials.
Key Responsibilities:
AI Exploration & Resource Development
Explore and test creative uses of generative AI across academic and creative disciplines (e.g., podcasting, zine creation, ePortfolios, immersive storytelling).
Develop student-friendly tutorials and guides for using AI tools ethically, equitably, and accessibly.
Draft early ideas, learning outcomes, and structure for a proposed Ethical AI Certificate program.
Document AI use cases and share examples that align with Guilford’s values.
Commons Ground Collaboration & Support
Work with students and faculty in the Ideation Lab, Folio Studio, and other Commons spaces to support projects using AI.
Co-create digital resources, workshops, and activities that highlight student work or explore new technology themes.
Gather user feedback to improve learning materials and help shape future programming.
Assist the Title III Director and Commons Ground project team with other duties as assigned.
