Department Summary-
Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Project Director of the Governors' Climate and Forests Task Force (GCF Task Force) at UCLA, the Program Associate, Impact Assessment (Program Associate) will provide services related to assessing, enhancing, and communicating the impacts of the GCF Task Force. The GCF Task Force is a project based at the UCLA School of Law and Institute of the Environment and Sustainability (IoES), and conducted in partnership with the University of Colorado, Boulder (CU), that supports a network of 43 state and provincial governments from 11 countries to reduce deforestation, attract sustainable finance, and combat climate change. These services will include soliciting and assessing various types of data from member jurisdictions (e.g., remote sensing and forest inventory data, civil servant surveys, economic, social, and biological indicators); coordinating with technical partners such as Ctrees, consultants, and governmental technical staff; utilizing and improving implementation of the GCF Task Force Impact Tracking System and knowledge management database tools; enhancing GCF Task Force communications and storytelling efforts regarding impacts; and developing recommendations for enhancing the relevance, accountability, and sustainability of GCF Task Force programs. These services will also include working with Country Directors and at-large members to ensure information is submitted regularly and with appropriate verification documents, producing policy reports/briefs, developing and disseminating digital communication materials (e.g., website, social media, newsletter), correspondence, and presentations on GCF Task Force issue areas, and collaborating with relevant departments at UCLA (including IoES, Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at UCLA School of Law, the Center for Tropical Research, the Congo Basin Institute, and other relevant units at UCLA) and CU (Institute of Behavioral Sciences), and other duties as assigned. Strong analytical skills, demonstrated experience with geographic information systems and remote sensing tools, ability to effectively communicate data and results in a variety of written formats, experience working in the global South, proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or Bahasa Indonesian, and availability for GCF Task Force related travel (2-4 times per year) are required.

Qualifications Equivalent experience/training. (Required) 3+ Relevant work experience (can include graduate-level work). (Required) working with governments, Indigenous Peoples, local communities, private sector, and/or civil society organizations in developing countries. (Preferred) Demonstrated knowledge and experience with geographic information systems, including geospatial software tools. (Required)Understanding of international forest, land use, climate, and development policy context, including knowledge of international geopolitics and socio-economic issues in the global south. (Required)Advanced skill in writing in order to produce clear and compelling analytical reports, policy briefs, communication materials, including website and social media content, public announcements, and routine business correspondence; and the ability to evaluate. (Required)Attention to detail, particularly with reporting and monitoring for program impacts and for public communication materials. (Required)Excellent command of the English language and facility in spelling, grammar, usage, and style consistent with professional writing standards. (Required)Excellent interpersonal skills to interact and communicate effectively with management, co-workers, faculty, staff, students and other campus departments, and government staff across a geographically and culturally diverse network.
