RAMM is the Library's technical services division. Our work encompasses the acquisition of new library resources, cataloguing and physical preparation, and management of electronic resources. Our division contributes to SFU's goals and priorities by making library materials available and discoverable, allowing students, faculty, and staff to access the resources they need to achieve their learning and research goals.
About the Role
At the direction of a managing Librarian, constructs or creates, edits, and maintains bibliographic, item, authority, and other records in the library catalogue and other databases to enable library users to access library materials and to contribute records to national and international bibliographic databases. Constructs records for resources in all formats. Performs cataloguing and related authority work for, and corrections to, the library catalogue database. Assists others in the division with queries regarding cataloguing procedure and policy. Assists with training new library assistants in metadata and electronic resource management. Assists with technical tasks such as evaluating batches of machine-readable cataloguing (MARC) records. Works with spreadsheets and databases to analyze, revise, and load data. Assigns metadata, helps organize database maintenance and completes various projects.
At the direction of a managing Librarian, provides patron access to the library's electronic journal collection. Manages journal holdings in the electronic journals knowledgebase and provides direct support to SFU students, faculty and staff on accessing electronic journals. Assists in the resolution of complex online access problems by responding to patron and librarian queries directly and corresponding with publishers and providers as needed.

Qualifications
High school graduation and two years of post-secondary education including library technician courses and training in database applications. 3 years of experience. An equivalent combination of formal education, certificate/program of study and experience is acceptable.
- Knowledge of serials and the academic journal publishing environment.
- Knowledge of general library procedures and terminology.
- Knowledge of library practices for managing electronic resources.
- Ability to complete original cataloguing of materials in all formats using MARC and RDA.
- Ability to learn new metadata standards, controlled vocabularies, and metadata creation tools as appropriate for each project.
