The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Research Coordinator (RC) reports to the Director, Calgary Liver Unit.
This position plays a vital role in supporting the clinical research activities of the Calgary Liver Unit Research Program and is responsible for managing and analyzing study data, coordinating participant engagement, recruitment and follow-up, chart reviews, maintaining regulatory compliance, and assisting with the operational needs of multiple research projects including but not limited to basic science, investigator-initiated and epidemiological research studies, Calgary Liver Unit Health Information and Biorepository (CLU HIB), clinical trials, and community-based research projects, as applicable.
This position is in person and would require periodic travel between hospital sites.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Research Projects and Data Entry:
- Have an extensive knowledge of ongoing research projects within the Calgary Liver Unit Research Program
- Development of forms, data collection, transcription and entry of study related data from medical charts into online database platform (REDCap and Qualtrics)
- Data review, cleaning, verification, analyses and reporting
- Conduct literature searches; develop, prepare and edit research abstracts, posters and presentations
- Create PowerPoints, document formatting and references using a citation manager
Participant Recruitment:
- Review health data to determine eligibility
- Identify, contact and schedule appointments with potential research participants
- Organize and develop patient materials for various studies
- Attend clinics and facilitate consent to contact for research
- Communicate with coordinators and research team to triage potential research participants
- Design case report forms; organize and develop patient materials for various studies
- Enrolment and ongoing follow up of human participants including informed consent process, follow-up visits and documentation of records
- Fully explain to the patients their involvement as a research participant, depending on the study, as well as provide an opportunity for questions
- Maintain study subject records, databases and confidentiality
General Administration:
- Prepare and submit regulatory and legal documentation following University of Calgary policies and procedures
- Prepare ethics submissions, revisions, and annual approvals process
- Ordering supplies and paying invoices as needed
- Perform general office duties e.g. filing, faxing, mailings, courier services, photocopying, etc.
- Interacting with hospital departments such as diagnostic imaging, pathology, pharmacy, health records, laboratories, as needed
- Update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Update training and monitoring logs
- Attends monthly staff meetings and weekly medical clinic meetings, as appropriate
- Various other duties as needed to keep the projects running smoothly
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in health sciences, biomedical sciences, public health, or a related field required
- Minimum 2 years of clinical research experience, preferably with direct involvement in human studies
- Previous experience in Connect care / chart reviews an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of clinical research platforms (REDCap, Qualtrics)
- Strong organizational, communication, and decision-making skills
- Socially outgoing / extravert / approachable attitude an asset
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Certifications in TCPS-2 and ICH-GCP required
- CCRP (SoCRA) certification is a strong asset
- Experience with AI tools, basic statistical analysis, and knowledge of regulatory frameworks an asset
- Certifications in First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, IATA (Dangerous Goods), and Biohazard handling an asset
- Must have own vehicle to travel between hospital sites
