The Faculty of Kinesiology invites applications for sessional instructors to teach the courses listed below in Fall 2025 (pending funding and sufficient enrolments).
The Fall 2025 term runs from Monday August 25 to Wednesday December 24. Classes in the Faculty of Kinesiology begin the week of September 2 and end Friday December 5, followed by the Registrar final exam period, which runs Tuesday December 9 to Friday December 19. Please see the academic schedule for additional important dates and deadlines.
Courses of Instruction
In general, instructor responsibilities include: course instruction; assessment and grading; creation and management of the course D2L shell; communication with faculty staff in relation to teaching and learning; ongoing communication with students and, where applicable, teaching assistants and lab personnel; and other assigned duties (as applicable).
KNES 201: Activity: Essence & Experience
Participate in various activities and movement patterns and the study of the fundamental factors that influence the activities we choose and the way we move. Please note that this posting is for the lecture component of the course only. Activity Labs will be posted separately.
Lecture: M, 15:00-16:50
Activity Labs: The course instructor will be required to coordinate with activity lab instructors but does not instruct any of the activity labs.
KNES 331: Foundations of Coaching
The fundamental principles of creating an effective training environment for the developing athlete.
Lecture: M, 14:00-14:50
Lab: M, 15:00-16:50 The course instructor will teach the lab with the support of a GAT (Graduate Assistants (Teaching)).
KNES 413: Motivation in Physical Activity, Exercise and Sport
Concepts related to motivation in physical activity, sport, and exercise settings. Antecedents, consequences, and processes of motivated behaviour are examined from theoretical, empirical, and applied perspectives.

KNES 431: The Art of Coaching
Advanced principles of the art of effective coaching. Note that the instructor teaches both the lecture and lab component of this class so a strong coaching background is essential, and should be emphasized in the application.

Lab: F, 11:00-12:50 The course instructor will teach the lab with the support of a GAT (Graduate Assistants (Teaching)).
KNES 433: Health and Physical Activity
Exploration of the relationships between health, disease, and the benefits associated with physical activity and the various factors that can promote and maintain lifestyle change. Students will be required to complete a personal health report based on the following laboratory components: (1) blood lipid profile (a fasting blood draw), (2) nutritional record (dietary record analyzed), (3) health risk analysis (an online risk assessment) and risk factor concept (summary 1 - 3 with the inclusion of family/genetic background).

KNES 479: Advanced Fitness Appraisal and Exercise Prescription
Advanced knowledge and skills necessary to assess physical fitness status of apparently healthy individuals, including cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, body composition, and flexibility. Interpretation of fitness test results, development of appropriate exercise prescriptions, and communication skills necessary for effective counselling. CSEP certification will be considered an asset for this instructional position.

Lab: The instructor will work with an exercise physiology lab technician but not instruct the lab component.
KNES 611: Research Methods in Kinesiology
An overview of research methods including study design, data collection, measurement, interpretation of data, scientific writing, and critical appraisal of the literature relevant to kinesiology.

KNES 615: Seminar in Applied Exercise Physiology I
Lectures and seminar presentations, discussion and critique of current research in applied exercise physiology and related subjects.
Seminar: R, 08:30-09:20
KNES 697: Exercise Psychology
Addresses the determinants and consequences of exercise and sport engagement within clinical and athletic populations. The focus will be on fostering effective behaviour change in varied populations, with hands-on skills and effective practice guidelines shared with the students.

Position Requirements
For all courses listed above, applicants must meet the following qualifications/requirements:
- Earned a PhD in Kinesiology or a related field; a master¿s degree in Kinesiology or a related field will be considered.
- Evidence of successful teaching at the university level and related to the content of the course(s) to which application is being made.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Experience teaching virtually will be considered an asset.

*Required for applicants who have not taught courses in the Faculty of Kinesiology previously.
In the cover letter, all applicants must clearly state the course(s) to which they are applying to instruct, the order of preference if more than one course, and their qualifications specific to each course. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
