The Department of Medical Genetics in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in Biochemistry and Molecular biology.
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher with a strong background in biochemistry to explore the mechanisms underlying brain development and RNA biology. This opportunity is available immediately in the Yang Laboratory (yanglaboratory.ca) at the University of Calgary, within the Departments of Medical Genetics and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
- Perform cell and molecular biology techniques
- Preparing manuscripts and reports
- Ability to communicate scientific findings via research meetings, oral presentations, and publications
- Interpreting and visualizing results and presenting findings to the research team
- Collaboration with other researchers, scientists, and technical staff
- Ability to mentor students and other lab members
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in cell and molecular biology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, neuroscience, or a related field within the last 0-36 months
- A demonstrated track record of scientific productivity, including a minimum of one first-author peer-reviewed research publication
- Experience with cell/molecular biology: cell culture (i.e., iPSC/stem cell culture), CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, qPCR and RT-PCR, Western blotting
- RNA biology experience: (i.e., splicing analysis, in vitro translation)
- Experience with next-generation sequencing
- Prior research experience working with human cells and/or mouse models
- Familiarity with software for statistical analysis
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
