Join a leading ecology and evolutionary biology research team to uncover the role of ecological interaction networks as predictors of invasive species impacts on ecosystem functioning and in ecological restoration
THE ROLE
The School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University is seeking an enthusiastic and independent Postdoctoral Research Fellow in ecology or evolutionary biology to contribute to an Australian Research Council-funded project. This project investigates the functional network ecologies of plants and soil microorganisms, using data from field and laboratory experiments that include functional trait measurements, plant and microbial physiological data, and genomic data.
The aim of the project is to link the architecture of multi-trophic ecological interaction networks to the impacts of invasive plant species on ecosystem multifunctionality to inform approaches for ecological restoration.
The ideal candidate will have completed a PhD in plant/microbial ecology and/or evolutionary biology, or a closely related field, and will have a strong track record of research excellence, including publications in high-impact journals. Applicants should have expertise relevant to the project, with experience in areas such as ecological interaction network analyses (unipartite, bipartite and multi-trophic), plant and/or microbial physiology, functional ecology, and/or mathematical modelling of ecological interactions.
We are looking for someone who is a clear and proactive communicator, who works well both independently and as part of a collaborative team, and who is adaptable, well-organised, and motivated by scientific inquiry. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic research environment and contribute to impactful ecological research.
About Us
The Faculty of Science and Engineering is a young and dynamic faculty driven by the spirit of discovery. Here we nurture the next generation of science and technology innovators. From a handful of students on the University’s first day, the Faculty now serves over 8,000 students across all our courses.
The School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University was established on 1 January 2022 through the amalgamation of the Departments of Biological Sciences, Molecular Sciences, and Earth and Environmental Sciences. The School is the largest in the Faculty of Science and Engineering and is a vibrant community of educators, researchers and students working across a wide range of biological, biomolecular, biomedical, chemical, environmental and geoscience disciplines.
Macquarie is a university engaged with the real and often complex problems and opportunities that define our lives. Since our foundation 59 years ago, we have aspired to be a different type of university. Over the years, we’ve grown to become the centre of a vibrant local and global community.
