The Macquarie University Clinical Trials Unit is excited to hire for the upcoming Trainee intake for Winter 2025 start.
- Salary Package: From $66,556 (HEW 3) plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading
- Appointment Type: 2x full-time, fixed-term positions for 12 months with an anticipated early August 2025 start
- Location: Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde
The Role
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) as Clinical Trials Trainees. This is a 12-month structured program designed to build foundational skills and experience in clinical trials, supporting your growth into an entry-level clinical trial professional.
Through rotations with the Start-up & Regulatory, Laboratory, Quality Finance,andClinical teams, you will gain hands-on experience and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) accreditation. You will be expected to undertake entry-level tasks assigned during each rotation, with training and supervision provided throughout.
Training will be provided to complete activities such as:
Interact with patients to perform clinical tasks and gain skills in communication
Collect and record vital signs and an ECG on a clinical trial patient
Collect and accurately record concomitant medications and adverse events during a trial patient interview
Collect and accurately file documents to maintain a clinical trial investigator site file
Submit documents for ethics review for routine processes (e.g. trial annual report or amendment)
Draft a preliminary budget for a clinical trial based on a protocol schedule of events
Process and ship clinical trial samples to a central lab
Prepare a clinic list and prepare for a clinical trial patient visit
Perform venepuncture (blood collection), if desired
Complete data entry for clinical trial patient visits and address database queries
Track and reconcile patient reimbursement for clinical trial visits
You will be supported by the CTU Training Manager and a team of experienced professionals who are committed to mentoring and guiding you throughout your learning experience. This is a predominantly patient-facing role, so candidates should be excited to work with people and interact face-to-face.

About Us
The Clinical Trials Unit (CTU)sits within theFaculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences at Macquarie University. We are co-located with Macquarie University Hospital and run a variety of Phase I–IV clinical trials across multiple therapeutic areas.
Our location on campus provides seamless access to hospital clinics, labs, imaging services, and a pharmacy—all helping support trials that offer patients access to cutting-edge treatments. We collaborate with both industry sponsors and academic investigators to deliver high-quality research with real-world impact.

Essential Selection Criteria
• Progress toward a tertiary qualification in life sciences or health, or equivalent experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated commitment to learning, quality, and service excellence
Desirable Selection Criteria
• Research experience gained through work or study
• A passion for a career in clinical trials

Other Specific Role Requirements
• Up-to-date immunisations and vaccinations to allow blood handling (in line with Macquarie University health requirements)
