The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Position Title. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
Position reports to Principal Investigator on various research projects and is responsible for the overall success of qualitative analysis and academic writing. Work is highly complex, conceptual, and analytical, often involving the determination of hypotheses grounded in relevant literature, theories, and conceptual frameworks. The candidate works independently and with broad directives to carry out day-to-day assignments and projects, requiring minimal guidance. The candidate is expected to ensure utmost academic rigour and standards; consequently, there is a high risk of error. Multiple, simultaneous deadlines occur throughout the year, resulting in an increased workload.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- The integrity of research products is unquestioned
- Manages projects effectively, on time, and on budget and aligned with the department's or project's overall objectives
- Presents specialized, technical information or research results to internal and/or external stakeholders
- Meets the continuously changing needs of the Principal Investigator's research agenda, the Department, and the University
- Responsible for making recommendations for policy or procedural changes that govern project or team objectives
- Participates in all aspects of the research process, including literature review, participant recruitment, data collection, analysis, and publication as required
- Publishes and presents pertinent research accomplishments or findings in internal and external journals or publications that are reviewed locally, nationally, and globally
- Review the work of other individuals in the research team
- Submits proposals to granting agencies and/or the Principal Investigator
- Mentors graduate students, research assistants, and others on qualitative research methods
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Master's degree in Nursing, Community Health Sciences, Public Health, Health Promotion, Social Sciences, or a related field
- Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in a related position
- Qualitative research experience based on interviews and/or focus groups, including in-depth knowledge of theories, methods, and their application to relevant research projects required
- Evidence of academic publication as a first or second author
- Experience leading research projects, as well as effective project management, supervisory skills, personal initiative, and teamwork
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, reference management software, NVivo, library databases, and other relevant software
- Ability to multitask and deal with multiple, simultaneous priorities effectively and efficiently
- Requires strong organizational and time management skills, accuracy, and strong attention to detail
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Exceptional critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
